Delhi Metro - Airport Express Line
Delhi Metro's, Airport Express Line, connects the 22 kilometer stretch between Connaught Place and Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is set to open soon.
Metro Airport Express will enable the domestic and International fliers to reach airport in just 20 Minutes from CP as against one hour during peak traffic hours via road. Another advantage would be The Capital to City Airport Terminals (CATs) will enable fast transit to the airport. The passengers will get the facility of complete with baggage check-in on the metro stations apart from issue of boarding pass, and a high-speed train to the airport.
For passengers traveling to national and international destinations, airline and baggage check-in counters will be there at the NDLS, Dhaula Kuan Metro, Shivaji Terminus stations. In fact all these railway stations will be functioning as mini-versions of airport terminals.
Delhi Metro Airport Express is made along the lines of the famous London's Heathrow Express Line and Metro Airport Link of Hong Kong. Delhi Metro Airport Express Line will comprise of only 6 halts on its way to the airport and it will travel with the speed of over 100 Km per hour and will cover the distance in 18 - 20 minutes.
Initially 8 trains with 6 coaches each will be providing services to the air passengers. The metro trains running on the Airport Express Line are different from the trains running on the other metro lines. The Airport Express Line metro trains will run at a maximum cruising speed of 135 kmph. Therefor the Delhi Metro's Airport Express is the fastest way to reach Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line trains offer state-of-the-art facilities, at a minimal cost to the passengers. The air travelers will have to pay an amount that is much less than taxi and auto fares. The proposed maximum fare is Rs 150.
The Airport Express Line Metro trains have luxurious cushioned seats having arm-rests for all passengers. The Airport Express Line Metro trains have specially designed overhead compartments for the passengers to keep hand-baggage. There is an additional space under seats. The coaches will have front or rear facing seats unlike normal metro coaches.
There are display boards for the passengers and they will have access to real-time, updated flight information.
For extra security the coaches will have CCTV Cameras or concealed cameras
The baggage of the air travelers will be secured in containers and loaded onto the trains at the CATs.
The CATs will have a parking space where the air bound travelers can park their cars and then take a Metro Express train to the International airport.
There will be longer halts at the stations to allow the baagage check - in for Delhi Metro Airport Express trains. The frequency is 10 minutes. It is estimated that 50,000 people will use Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line service daily.
The total cost of the Airport Express is around Rs 4000 crores.
