Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple in Mayur Vihar is built in line with the original Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple in Kerala. The building is exactly the same. The mural paintings on the walls will enchant you.

The temple is a beautiful example of unique architecture. The foundation stone of Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple was laid down in October 1986 by Shankracharya.

The actual owner of the land on which the temple is built belonged to a Kahmeeri widow whose wish was to build a temple on her land. However DDA took her land and the wish was not fulfilled. When the daughter of the widow after many years inquired about her land, to her surprise she came to know that the land has been allotted to build a temple. She was very happy as her mothers wish was fulfilled by the God himself. At that time she donated Rs 40,000 for the construction of the temple.

Many people from al parts of Delhi come daily for worship. People worship the deities like Lord Krishna, Lord Vigneswara, Chottanikkara Bhagavathy (Devi), Lord Shiva and Lord Ayyappa.

Cultural programmes are also held in the temple in a big hall a, cultural complex known as "Panchjanya". On the basement of the temple complex there is a big library which has books on religious subjects.

Annual Festival: Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple, in te month of May every year celebrates its annual function with much fanfare for a week. The temple in this week is decorated with lights and diyas. During the annual functions artists from Kerala are also invited to perform their various arts like Ottam Thullal, Chakya Koothu and Koodiyattam.

The temple also encourages music and holds competition in the fields of light music and classical devotional music Narayaneeyam and Jnanappana.


Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple also runs a charitable medical care.
